For our client's consortium, the Deputy Director (Research & Learning) will set the direction for research and learning by fusing academic research with practical programming expertise. This role will encourage and record learning and learning connected to research for our client's consortia, as well as broaden and deepen connection with research partners.
• Technical and operational oversight to on-going research to ensure coherence, coordination and effective management • Provides technical support to the development of new research projects and proposals, expanding quantity and diversity of research • Leads and/or supports the identification, prioritization and elaboration of research needs and interests at various levels of the organization. • Supports coordination and engagement on research efforts with relevant stakeholders. • Ensures staff have opportunities to provide feedback and inputs into research initiatives such as strategies, policies, guidelines • Develops strategic and innovative research partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, with a focus on expanding engagement to new and strategic academic partnerships. • Leads knowledge management activities: documentation of best practices and lessons learned; systematization of signature approaches; collection of case studies.
• A master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as sociology, public health, nutrition, economics, or another related topic • Ten or more years' worth of experience overseeing studies and research initiatives (as a Principal Investigator) fostering cooperative and fruitful alliances between research and operational partners • Working in humanitarian and development contexts for at least seven years is preferred. • Proficiency in drafting proposals and obtaining grants; familiarity in collaborating with academic partners and consortia members; familiarity with navigating different organizational levels and layers • in producing scientific articles and reports for both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed journals • Good interpersonal skills, the capacity to work both individually and collaboratively, and familiarity with implementation research and/or program evaluation techniques. • Familiarity with donor agreements, oversight, stringent reporting requirements, and financial constraints • High level of competence with the Microsoft Office Suite; at ease using a variety of computers and software with little assistance from IT; demonstrated ability to be proactive and take the initiative to advance challenging projects • Must be comfortable working from remote locations, managing and prioritizing own workload autonomously & reliably • Fluent written and spoken English • Experience communicating in different cultural work environments & with a wide diversity of culture • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to work under pressure; especially in changing work contexts; • Strong communication (verbal and written) & coordination skills a necessity.
