Your primary duty as the Communications and Media Officer will be to ensure that our work in Ghana receives focused, significant media attention, including but not limited to conventional, digital, radio, and television.
• Create, plan, and carry out agreed-upon communication strategy. • The Communications and Media Officer will create press releases, social media material, homepage content, and other communications output including banners, posters, and pamphlets in close collaboration with the graphic designer and the UK-based communications team. • Assist local communities in interacting with radio journalists by identifying and interacting with target radio networks for radio programs. • Actively cultivate a network of interested journalists to increase the caliber of coverage of Ghana's fishing sector overall and obtain substantial media attention for the organization's efforts. • Answer questions from the media and collaborate with others to optimize coverage chances. • Organize workshops for journalist training. • Plan press conferences and provide relevant marketing collateral. • Encourage local screenings of project films and radio shows as well as national media channels. • Organize press conferences and travel to make sure major events, especially those involving high-profile supporters and guest speakers, operate well. • Verify that all communications materials adhere to the specifications for donor branding.
• Excellent news sense and the capacity to explain difficult concepts to a variety of audiences, including nearby fishing villages. • The capacity to write fact-checked and inspirational copy for print and the web. • A degree in communications, media, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline, or experience that is comparable. • Excellent working understanding of Ghana's media environment and experience working in a press and media team. A benefit is having existing relationships. • A history of completing projects with little oversight. • Outstanding communication abilities both in writing and speaking. • Experience using a camera and recording interviews while working in radio or television media.
