A Drill Electrician plays a specialized role in maintaining and optimizing the electrical systems of advanced drilling machinery used in mining, oil, or construction projects. This position requires expertise in diagnosing complex faults, working with high-voltage systems, and ensuring minimal equipment downtime in high-pressure environments.
• Electrical System Optimization: Configure, calibrate, and fine-tune Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to enhance drilling efficiency and reduce power consumption. • High-Voltage Equipment Handling: Safely work on and maintain high-voltage systems and switchgear integrated into heavy-duty drill rigs. • Emergency Response: Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve critical electrical malfunctions during live operations to avoid costly downtimes. • Automation Systems: Integrate and maintain automation features on drilling rigs, including robotic drill heads and smart diagnostic tools. • System Upgrades: Implement upgrades to legacy systems to meet evolving technological and operational standards. • Environmental Adaptation: Address electrical performance issues caused by extreme environmental conditions, such as moisture, heat, or dust interference.
• Three years or more of practical post-qualification experience operating drill rigs and earth moving heavy equipment • Capacity to read, comprehend, and analyse electrical schematics and any technical literature • Excellent knowledge and application of Electronic Technician (ET) and CAT SIS. • Strong knowledge of power generation systems and how they work • Outstanding troubleshooting abilities • At least a Ghanaian driver's license is required.
