The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and executing health and safety management systems across all operational areas of the mine.
• Develop, oversee, and ensure the implementation of safety management systems throughout the mine, aligning with both local and international safety regulations and best practices. • Ensure all health and safety operations are in full compliance with relevant laws and standards. • Create, assess, and implement risk management systems to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring the proper controls are in place to minimize injuries and damage. • Lead and/or engage in incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective actions are taken to prevent future incidents. • Manage the monthly budget for the unit, regularly monitoring expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. • Organize and facilitate health and safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors in collaboration with relevant parties. • Collaborate with department heads, partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures. • Communicate with the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana and other governmental bodies to ensure compliance with legal health and safety requirements. • Work cross-functionally to promote a safety-focused culture that supports operational efficiency and success. • Establish systems for monitoring and reviewing safe operating procedures (SOPs) and job hazard analyses (JHAs) for all work areas. • Design and implement effective emergency response and crisis management systems for the mine. • Enforce disciplinary actions in cases of poor performance, inefficiency, or misconduct. • Ensure effective communication of all policies, procedures, and directives to employees under supervision, maintaining documented records of all communications.
• A degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Environmental and Safety Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. • At least seven years of experience in safety management within a mining or similar industrial setting. • In-depth knowledge of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and related national and international safety regulations. • Must possess the relevant professional and statutory certifications from the Minerals Commission of Ghana. • Expertise in safety management systems aligned with national laws and global best practices. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • A valid driving license with at least five years of driving experience.
