Overview

The position of Economic Analyst holds significant importance in achieving the goals of the Ghana program. The incumbent will actively contribute to advancing analytical work concerning economic aspects related to resource governance in Ghana. This entails taking a leading role and making substantial contributions to economic analysis and data, which will inform capacity development, policy reform, and advocacy efforts, particularly in the realms of energy transition, transition minerals, and revenue management programs in Ghana.

Responsibilities

  • The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding and experience in economic policy issues and analysis specific to Ghana. The Economic Analyst is expected to bring technical proficiency in extractives governance, economics, energy transition, transition minerals, revenue management, and governance. This expertise will be instrumental in generating expert analysis, conducting research, and providing essential policy advice to support NRGI's initiatives in driving reform in Ghana.

 

  • Collaborating closely with the Ghana team, particularly the Senior Program Officer, the Legal and Economics team, and other relevant teams across NRGI, the incumbent will contribute to advancing research, data analysis, knowledge, and advocacy. They will play a pivotal role in shaping and influencing government policy by offering technical assistance, expert opinions, policy analysis on critical program issues concerning the Ghana program. Establishing strategic and productive relationships with national institutions, government leaders, development partners, civil society, including media, women, and youth groups, as well as the private sector, is also a vital aspect of the role.

 

  • The successful candidate is expected to possess robust analytical skills, as well as experience in public speaking and presentations. With a background in economics and the extractives industry, they will contribute to advocacy, capacity building, and technical assistance efforts by providing expertise, strategies, and interventions, and integrating global learnings, experiences, and programs into the local context in Ghana.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as an economic analyst within the field of international development broadly.
  • At least 2 years' experience working on extractive industry governance in Ghana or at least one of the following fields: public financial management, state-owned enterprise management, energy transition, and transition minerals.
  • Exceptional quantitative analysis skills, including experience synthesizing data sets from multiple sources and guiding strategic analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience collaborating with governmental and non-state actors on development policy issues in Ghana.
  • Conceptual and strategic thinking abilities with a 2–3-year horizon.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment, while also being a team player.
  • Experience working in a complex or pioneering environment, including supporting and developing opportunities for systemic change.
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability and/or interest in engaging with the media and using social media platforms (e.g., Twitter) to connect NRGI's work to relevant current affairs.
