Online News Editor

Overview

This is a hands-on leadership role where the incumbent will help the Chief Editor develop, manage, and inspire a highly driven, results-driven team to produce and/or acquire rich media material for publication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the application of the editing policy. • Organize the editorial staff by assigning and scheduling duties related to content development and acquisition. • Producing and obtaining morally sound, captivating rich media content for the website • Regulate chat rooms and forums. • editing and/or approving user-contributed material • Work along with webmasters and designers to produce interactive pages, podcasts, and make sure the website is running as smoothly as possible. All the time. • Work together with the company's marketing and public relations teams to make sure that the institution's website, its brand, and its marketing messages are updated, maintained, and assessed for efficacy and efficiency. • Use brief designs for social media to advertise the website. • Oversee the social media profiles for the news portal.

Requirements

• A diploma in journalism from a recognized university with five years of job experience, most of which should have been in online journalism; or a first degree in communication, journalism studies, or a comparable discipline with three years of work experience. • Strong communication skills both in writing and speaking, along with extensive editing knowledge • Need to be aware of current digital trends • Analytical with a keen sense of detail • Good familiarity with a variety of programs and technologies, such as social media platforms, MS Office, picture and video editing programs, and content management systems • The capacity to work for extended periods of time and under pressure • Strong computer literacy, including the ability to plan pages
