Creating and carrying out programs in agriculture that are sensitive to nutrition, carrying out analyses to find gaps and obstacles in dietary diversity, offering technical assistance to partners and project staff, and keeping track of and assessing the results of nutrition interventions.
Moreover, the Nutrition Specialist will work closely with local authorities, government agencies, and community leaders to guarantee the scalability and sustainability of nutrition interventions beyond the project's conclusion.
Needs Assessment:
Perform in-depth analyses of the target population's nutritional state, eating patterns, and unique vulnerabilities, including children and adolescents.
Offer planning and technical assistance for the creation and management of food availability surveys and consumption studies as well as additional research on nutrition.
Examine how food and nutrition are viewed in different cultural contexts, as well as how socioeconomic variables like income, education, and work position may affect dietary preferences and nutritional results.
Program Development and Planning
Create thorough nutrition programs that are suited to the requirements of the target audiences, taking into account things like dietary habits, cultural preferences, and demographic profiles.
Organize and plan nutrition initiatives that support micronutrient supplementation, a diverse diet, and better eating habits among the most vulnerable.
Work together with stakeholders to include nutrition-related elements in larger health, agricultural, and social development initiatives.
Create educational materials, intervention protocols, and behavior change communication materials that are specific to the target audience's language and cultural preferences.
Establish relationships with regional authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other interested parties in order to secure funding, forge alliances, and guarantee the long-term viability of nutrition initiatives.
Knowledge:
Understanding of public health theories, epidemiology, health promotion, illness prevention, and health behavior modification techniques, as well as population-level approaches to nutrition-related problems.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition, such as macro- and micronutrients, dietary recommendations, life-cycle nutritional needs, and the connection between food and health consequences.
Knowledge of the principles of food security, as well as of distribution, availability, and access to food, as well as the trade, agricultural, and food policy aspects that affect food systems.
Understanding the nutritional needs of mothers, adolescents, and children, as well as growth monitoring, micronutrient supplementation, and malnutrition prevention and treatment techniques for women and adolescents.
Experience:
A minimum of three years' experience in the field creating nutrition treatments and programs that are suited to certain target groups or communities while taking socioeconomic status, cultural preferences, and dietary requirements into account.
Expertise collaborating closely with communities to comprehend their needs, preferences, and concerns with nutrition and including them in the planning and execution of nutrition programs.
Experience leading seminars, training sessions, or educational events to increase the knowledge of healthcare professionals, community members, and other stakeholders on nutrition-related subjects such food preparation, nutrition education, and healthy eating.
Proficiency in collaborating with heterogeneous groups and communities, grasping customs, values, and viewpoints around food and wellness, and customizing nutrition treatments to guarantee cultural appropriateness and awareness.
